As you cruise the Ohio River in the comfort of our new riverboat, immerse yourself in our American roots from the Civil War to the Civil Rights Movement. Cruising the legendary Mississippi River, surround yourself with the landscapes and idyllic towns that inspired Mark Twain.

In Henderson, visit the Audubon Museum, which features many original works and join our expert guide to learn about the sense of natural wonder that this artist instilled in so many Americans. While in Louisville, take a behind the scenes tour of the Churchill Downs, the site of the famed Kentucky Derby, and explore the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, the world's largest museum devoted to quilt and fiber art.

At the end of an active day, return to the ship for relaxation and camaraderie as you sit down to a delicious meal and delightful conversation in our elegant restaurant.

Every cruise on the Ohio River is unique due to fluctuating river conditions that can have an impact on our itinerary. The river has a mind of its own and, as it has been since the dawn of river travel, our sailing schedules must adapt to it. It is possible that guests will be transported between a town on the Ohio River and Pittsburgh by coach for excursions or embarkation.

Day 3 - Moundsville, WV

Located along the banks of the Ohio River Moundsville, West Virginia offers a rich history. Deriving its name from the many Adena Indian burial mounds constructed here more than 2,000 years ago, the town is home to the largest conical burial mound in North America. Moundsville is a land of sacred pasts and promising futures, accented with quaint neighborhoods, and beautiful landscapes.

    • Fostoria Glass Museum - Visit this one-of-a-kind site which displays Fostoria products. At one time, Fostoria was the largest maker of handmade glassware in the United States, employing nearly 1000 people. All the presidents from Eisenhower through Reagan ordered glassware from them. Fostoria's business peaked in 1950 when they made over 8 million pieces of glass.

    Srila Prabhupada was a spiritual leader of the 20th century who translated over sixty volumes of classic Hindu scriptures into the English language. In 1973, devotees decided to build a home for him, where he could write his books and enjoy the clean country air. The plan was a rough sketch drawn on a scrap of paper. No expert architect or experienced artisans were involved, yet somehow at each step the trial-and-error construction produced something grander than the devotees had imagined. Bit by bit, cemented, chiseled, and forged, with loving labor Prabhupada’s Palace of Gold emerged. Enjoy a guided exploration of the Hindu palace with additional time to explore on your own.

Explore the first settlement in the Northwest Territory on the north side of the Ohio River. Over 230 years later, we have a general idea of when these earthworks were created and how they were used, even as many questions remain to be answered. Join Castle archaeologist Wes Clarke as we take a detailed look at these prehistoric remains, including significant new information that has been generated in recent years with modern research techniques. Visit the four principal surviving elements of the Marietta works, beginning at Mound Cemetery and driving to Capitolium, Quadranaou, and Sacra Via.

    Be treated to a guided exploration of two significant Marietta sites, the former site of Fort Harmar and the Henry Fearing House.

    Built in 1785, Fort Harmar was an early United States frontier military fort, built in pentagonal shape at the confluence of the Ohio and Muskingum rivers. Before the settlement of the early Marietta pioneers, the fort served to evict squatters. Less than 3 years later, it became a place where treaties were negotiated and signed with native tribes and also served as a home for soldiers who took part in other important events influencing the settlement of the Northwest Territory.

    Built in 1847, the Henry Fearing home exemplifies the lifestyle of middle-class Marietta during the Victorian Era. Henry Fearing was the first lawyer of the Northwest territory. Come visit his original home, maintained by the Washington County Historical Society, to see how early settlers once lived.

Day 6 - Maysville, KY

From the ship’s landing, gaze upon the quaint town of Maysville, nestled into the hillside. After floating down the Mississippi River to sell their commodities in New Orleans, early flatboat travelers returned along the Natchez Trace Pathway to rejoin the Ohio River in this idyllic town, steeped in American history.

Learn the importance of this location to the Underground Railroad efforts to smuggle runaway slaves across the river, as well as the influence that Harriet Beecher Stowe’s visit to Maysville had on her novel, Uncle Tom’s Cabin. Hear stories of area explorers, such as Simon Kenton, and hometown singer and movie star Rosemary Clooney.

    Visit The Russell Theater, opened in 1930 by Colonel J. Barbour Russell, a flamboyant, well-known Maysville businessman who made his early fortune in the grocery business. The structure is constructed entirely of steel, concrete, brick, and terra cotta in Spanish Colonial style with a Moorish influence. This Theatre is atmospheric, and one of only two in Kentucky. “What the Roxy is to New York,” Russell boasted, “The Russell will be to Maysville.” 

    In 1953, Rosemary Clooney, a Maysville native, premiered her movie, The Stars Are Singing.  Today, the lobby is dedicated to memorabilia of that night and other items of interest to Clooney fans. After nearly being torn down, The Russell Theater was saved by volunteers who donated countless hours restoring and preserving this heart of Maysville, which is listed in individually on the National Register of Historic Places.

As an early shipbuilding and shipping metropolis, the town became known as the “Queen City.”  Your adventures ashore reveal the highlights of this vibrant cultural center which include major sports franchises, a delightful zoo, and a botanical garden, as well as numerous theaters and museums, including the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, a Smithsonian Affiliate Museum.

Admire the eclectic architecture as you stroll along its charming streets and enjoy the diverse attractions, ranging from the abundant gardens of the Krohn Conservatory to the architectural wonders of St. Mary’s Cathedral Basilica. Day 9 - Louisville, KY

An impressive waterfront town arching up the hillside, Louisville has a long history of commerce and revelry. The town grew at a portage around the treacherous Falls of the Ohio, now inundated behind the Ohio River’s Markland Dam. The historic importance of river commerce to the town is represented by the “Belle of Louisville” day excursion boat just down the banks, still operating after more than a century. Explore the impressive Churchill Downs to learn about the city’s renowned Kentucky Derby, the oldest continuously held horse race in the country.

Or stop by the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory to see how the famous baseball bats are made. A visit to the a local distillery will lift your spirits as you savor samples and learn about the history of Kentucky bourbons.

The town grew at a portage around the treacherous Falls of the Ohio, now inundated behind the Ohio River’s Markland Dam. After floating down the Mississippi River to sell their commodities in New Orleans, early flatboat travelers returned along the Natchez Trace Pathway to rejoin the Ohio River in this idyllic town, steeped in American history.

Learn the importance of this location to the Underground Railroad efforts to smuggle runaway slaves across the river, as well as the influence that Harriet Beecher Stowe’s visit to Maysville had on her novel, Uncle Tom’s Cabin. Hear stories of area explorers, such as Simon Kenton, and hometown singer and movie star Rosemary Clooney.

    Visit The Russell Theater, opened in 1930 by Colonel J. Barbour Russell, a flamboyant, well-known Maysville businessman who made his early fortune in the grocery business. This Theatre is atmospheric, and one of only two in Kentucky. “What the Roxy is to New York,” Russell boasted, “The Russell will be to Maysville.” 

    In 1953, Rosemary Clooney, a Maysville native, premiered her movie, The Stars Are Singing.  Today, the lobby is dedicated to memorabilia of that night and other items of interest to Clooney fans. After nearly being torn down, The Russell Theater was saved by volunteers who donated countless hours restoring and preserving this heart of Maysville, which is listed in individually on the National Register of Historic Places.
