There won’t be any candles to blow out for the United States’ 250th birthday in 2026, but cruisers will have the chance to celebrate on some of the longest-ever domestic river sailings.

American Cruise Lines has revealed a handful of 50-plus-night itineraries to commemorate the anniversary of the Declaration of Independence signing.

The largest U.S. cruise line and third-largest river cruise line in the world – with 24 ships poised to sail the nation’s rivers and coastal areas by 2026 – made a splash in 2024 when it kicked off a 60-night Great United States cruise. This was followed by a shortened version of 50 nights in 2025.

Charleston will be the point of embarkation for a transcontinental excursion that ends almost 4,000 miles away in the 49th state, requiring travelers to board five ships and at least two airplanes to complete the lengthy journey.

American Cruise Lines unveiled several new packages last week tied to the nation’s 250th birthday next year. 

Cruising the mighty Mississippi and its tributaries has been my pleasure since 1976. Someone asked me once if it doesn’t get tiresome watching the river day after day. For me, definitely not.

As America’s first highway, the Mississippi River is one of the longest rivers in the world, starting as a trickle out of Lake Itasca in northern Minnesota and flowing 2,348 miles to surge into the Gulf of Mexico. As the Mississippi River flows from north to south, it is joined by other rivers known as tributaries, which add to its volume and strength.

There’s only one cruise line — American Cruise Line — that operates numerous itineraries on the Mississippi and its picturesque tributaries, including the Tennessee, Ohio and Cumberland rivers.

Fans of the ANTIQUES ROADSHOW are going to have a new reason to go cruising this summer. American Cruise Lines has announced that it will offer a new Antiques Theme Cruise on June 16 aboard American Glory.

The cruise will follow American Cruise Lines popular Maine Coast & Harbors itinerary. A sponsor of the popular television series since 2021, American Cruise Lines offered the company’s first Antiques Themed Cruise in 2023 along one of their Mississippi River cruises.
