From Ship to Shore, We Are All-American

When you sail with American Cruise Lines, you’re choosing something rare in the cruise industry: a 100% American-owned company offering entirely domestic itineraries, an all-American crew, and ships built in the United States. Each vessel is U.S.-flagged and proudly flies the American flag. Together, these distinctions define what it means to be an all-American cruise line, with a commitment that extends from ship to shore.

What U.S.-Flagged Means

A U.S.-flagged vessel is registered in the United States and operates under U.S. maritime laws and regulations. This requires compliance with federal standards for vessel construction, safety, operations, and crew qualifications. American Cruise Lines is the only cruise line with all four distinctions.

Most major cruise lines register their ships in foreign countries, where operating costs, including taxes and labor, can be lower and regulatory requirements differ from those in the United States. By contrast, American Cruise Lines builds and operates its fleet under U.S. standards.

As a result, our vessels can offer 100% domestic point-to-point U.S. transportation anywhere in the country without ever needing to make a foreign-port stop. Depending on the itinerary, foreign-flagged cruise ships must include a foreign port of call to meet the law’s requirements, often taking guests beyond their intended route. Those required stops mean their itineraries are no longer purely domestic U.S. travel.

Our guests experience a seamless voyage without ever needing to leave the country or the calm waters of our rivers and coastlines. It also provides the added confidence of sailing aboard our ships under strict federal maritime and safety oversight.

Built and Designed for America

American Cruise Lines’ ships are designed by in-house naval architects and marine engineers for their intended operating regions, then built at our affiliated shipyard, Chesapeake Shipbuilding, in Salisbury, Maryland. As U.S.-built vessels, they meet applicable safety and construction requirements while offering the most spacious staterooms in the industry, inviting lounges, and premium amenities for comfort and enjoyment.

An All-American Crew

American Cruise Lines staffs its ships entirely with Americans, another defining distinction of our U.S.-flagged fleet. Crew members bring warm, welcoming hospitality and a genuine connection to the destinations we visit. They also undergo extensive training at our facility in Salt Lake City, Utah, preparing them to deliver the exceptional service our guests expect.

More Ways to Explore America

U.S.-flagged status supports American Cruise Lines’ extensive itinerary offerings, with access to more than 150 ports across 40 states, from the Pacific Northwest to America’s Heartland and the East Coast. Our small ships reach coastal communities and inland ports that larger ships cannot, bringing guests closer to the places, people, and stories that define America.

From U.S.-built ships and an all-American crew to the nation’s most sought-after destinations, we are proud to offer a distinctly American way to explore the country. Throughout the journey, guests enjoy an all-inclusive experience, personalized service, world-class cuisine, and enriching entertainment, delivered to the industry’s most rigorous standards.
